NQ delegation to hit nation’s capital

NQ delegation to hit nation’s capital

Hells Gates Dam, CopperString 2.0, and the Mount Isa to Townsville supply chain will be among the hot topics when Townsville Enterprise and North Queensland Mayors hit Canberra next week.

The delegation plans to directly engage with national leaders to promote the region’s Federal Budget Submission, which encourages the Commonwealth to unlock the north through policy reform and investment towards key industries.

Townsville Enterprise interim chief executive officer Wayde Chiesa said the delegation aimed to send a united message that the north could play a leading role in the nation’s COVID-19 economic recovery.

“We have secured 21 meetings with senior members of Cabinet and the Opposition to highlight the key North Queensland industries that can not only support our regional economy, but that of the nation’s through significant job creation and long-term economic resilience building,” Mr Chiesa said.

Hells Gates Dam, lowering energy costs through projects like CopperString 2.0, Defence industry building, and the Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct are some of the projects and policies to be raised.

The delegation will not only be promoting a strong pipeline of nation-building projects, but highlighting the challenges restricting the region from reaching its full potential, including the overdue need for reliable and affordable power and the cost and coverage of insurance.
