Mines rescue team tackles highway fire threat

The Capcoal Mines Rescue Team helped save the day when a vehicle fire spread to grass along the Middlemount-Tieri Rd yesterday.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said the incident happened about 11.45am.

It is understood a driver stopped near the Capcoal mine site after noticing a fire in his utility tray and the fire subsequently spread to the grass beside the main road.

The Capcoal Mines Rescue Team responded, bringing the grass fire under control and providing medical support to the motorist.

“It’s important to us to have strong emergency response capabilities on hand, to support our operations and the broader Middlemount community where we operate,” Capcoal open-cut mine general manager Mick Keough said.

“Our Capcoal Mines Rescue Team were able to quickly mobilise to provide assistance to the passing motorist until Queensland Fire and Emergency Services arrived.”

The mines rescue team handed over to the QFES crews when they arrived.
