Hall ready to lend a hand with sand

Hall Contracting has won two major sand nourishment and dredging contracts with Cairns Regional Council.

More than 20,000 cubic metres of sand will be deposited along the Holloways Beach foreshore to address significant erosion.

The council has awarded a $683,000 contract to Hall Contracting for the sand nourishment works, starting later this year subject to contractor availability and weather.

A council spokesman said the project incorporated funding received through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement for sand nourishment along 750m of foreshore to the north of the Holloways Beach stinger net enclosure. Sand dredged near the mouth of Richter’s Creek will be used for the works.

The council has also flagged the possibility of extending the contract to include up to an additional 10,000 cubic metres of sand if funding was available.

A three-year, $2.84 million contract for the continued maintenance dredging of Blue Water canal at Trinity Beach has also been awarded to Hall Contracting.

The cutter suction dredge Saibai will be undertaking the Cairns works.
