Gladstone alert as COVID cases spark Brisbane lockdown

Greater Brisbane will go into a three-day lockdown from 5pm today (March 29) and restrictions will come into force across Queensland after cases of COVID-19 transmission in the community. The lockdown comes after 10 new cases in Queensland overnight including four confirmed cases of community transmission - one a man who visited Gladstone between March 25-27. That movement has prompted statewide precautions regarding mask wearing and limits on gatherings. The new cases have been confirmed as the “highly infectious” UK strain of the virus. see Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk's announcement HERE Gladstone Regional Council has issued a community update advising that the infected person known to have been in that region visited the following venues:- 25 March – Gin Gin Bakery 1.26pm-1.33pm- 25 March – Miriam Vale Roadhouse and Caravan Park 2.35pm-2.45pm- 26 March – Spinnaker Park Café 10.22am-11.23am- 26 March – Coles Stockland Gladstone 12.09pm-12.33pm- 26 March – BWS Stockland Gladstone 4.46pm-5pm- 26 March – Auckland House 7.23pm-9.30pm- 27 March – Auckland House 7.33am-8.20am. Anyone who attended these venues on the above dates is being advised to get tested immediately. (Gladstone’s COVID-19 testing facility is located at Gladstone Hospital.) At this stage Queensland Health has not enforced a three-day lockdown on Gladstone or the Gladstone Region. The Brisbane lockdown will apply to residents in the local government areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, Logan and Redlands. The restrictions mean those residents are only allowed to leave home for one of these four reasons: 1. To buy essentials such as groceries or medications 2. Work or study if they can’t do either from home 3. Exercise in their local area 4. Healthcare or to provide help, care or support Cafés, pubs and restaurants will be open only for take-away service. Schools in the locked down areas will remain open for children of essential workers only. Anyone who was in Greater Brisbane on or since Saturday 20 March 2021 is required to follow the same lockdown rules even if they are no longer in Greater Brisbane. They must only leave your home for the essential reasons and wear a mask. "For the rest of Queensland, private gatherings are restricted to 30 people. Everywhere in Queensland, you must carry a mask with you whenever you leave home," Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said. "Wear it in indoor spaces, including public transport, taxis and rideshares. "To keep our most vulnerable Queenslanders safe, aged care, correctional centres, hospitals and disability service providers will close to visitors across the state. The restrictions will be reviewed on Wednesday evening. "These measures are tough, but they are important to keep our community safe."
