Charges laid over Carborough Downs death

Charges have been laid against Carborough Downs Coal Management and two individuals in relation to the death of Brad Duxbury in November 2019.

The Ipswich man (pictured below) died after a coal fall at the longwall face of the Fitzroy Australia Resources-owned Carborough Downs coal mine, about 20km east of Moranbah.

The investigating agency, Resources Safety and Health Queensland, referred the matter to the independent Work Health and Safety Prosecutor, who has elected to commence prosecution proceedings in relation to the incident.

The matters are listed in the Mackay Industrial Magistrates Court on March 23, 2021.

Carborough Downs Coal Management, owned by Fitzroy Australia Resources, today confirmed that legal charges had been laid in relation to Mr Duxbury’s death and released a short statement.

“November 25 was the anniversary of Brad’s death and we are concentrating on remembering him and supporting those who were impacted by his loss,” a spokesman said.

“We will consider the nature of the charges and provide support for our staff who have been charged.”
